A Quick Answer to Prayer

This is a song I wrote a long time ago, and tealized today that I had never posted here.

About 20 years ago, I was in a situation where I had made a bad mistake at work.  I had planned to take a personal day off, and my boss said, "No way.  You have to come in to work and fix that mistake."  I was terrified that I would not be able to fix the mistake, and I was upset that I wasn't getting the day off that I had planned.  I was feeling guilty and angry and my emotions were just out of control.

I was allowed to take an hour to go to an appointment that I had planned, and when I got into the car, I cried out to God for help.  "God, my attitude stinks, and I have no idea how to fix it.  I need help!"  And almost before I finished saying that, I heard a quiet song start up in the back of my mind, "Are you doing what you're doing for me?..."  Only the first few lines of the song came then, but it was enough to completely change my attitude.

The rest of the song came gradually over the course of the next week, as I slogged my way through fixing the first mistake and then finding and confronting several other serious mistakes that I'd made.  It was a terrible week at work, though it was ultimately successful.   And the song really helped me to stay sane and cheerful throughout the process.
