It's Time

This is a song I wrote about three years ago, when I first started going to a church called Celebration Movement (of which I am now a co-pastor).  For some reason, I didn't post it on this blog at the time, and while posted it to Youtube, I think I've never shared it with a live audience, but it has recently come to my mind.

I had been reading the beginning of the gospel of Mark in the Passion translation and I came across Mark 1:15, which describes the beginning of Jesus' ministry.

His message was this, "At last the fulfillment of the age has come! It is time for God's kingdom to be experienced in its fulness! Turn your lives back to God and put your trust in the hope-filled gospel."

A refrain based on that began running through my mind.

The rest of the song grew slowly.

When I was at seminary, one of the terms theologians like to use that resonated for me was that the Kingdom of God is "Already/Not yet". That was true when Jesus walked on earth and it's true now, even though the "Not yet" aspect may seem clearer when we look around.

I still feel like the call to rise up and walk in an awareness of the Kingdom of God remains relevant today.

It's Time

It's time.  It's here.
Time to rise and shine
Because the Kingdom of God is near.
It's here.

Jesus came preaching and teaching
The good news of the Kingdom of God.
He said the time of waiting was over and done
Instead of a prophet, God sent His only Son.

And it's time.  It's here...

He said the Kingdom of God was among them.
He told them they were the light of the world.
He said that God was making them a city set high on a hill
So no one could miss that God was working His will.

And it's time.  It's here...

They got to touch God with their fingers.
We have to find God in our hearts.
When He walked on earth He stood in only one place.
But now the Holy Spirit works in each and every space.

And it's time.  It's here...
